ASPHALT

The Pitch asphalt lake in Trinidad has a surface of 46 ha and it is deep, in the centre, more than 40 m. The asphalt is soft in the middle of the lake, where it is probably fed by an underground spring, and it is very hard on the banks. However, even in the centre, the material is strong enough to support a man and can be broken into blocks.
